Alaminos City, Pangasinan Hundred Islands and a 100 Flavors
Lingayen Gulf was the landing area for both the Japanese invasion forces and the American liberators during World War II and many memorials have been erected in memory of these important historical events. These include the Lingayen Gulf War Memorial and the park and marker at Bonuan Blue Beach. Pangasinan adjourns Lingayen Gulf and is the point of departure for tourists traveling to the One Hundred Islands National Park, a remarkably varied collection of coral islets. The bangus or milkfish of Pangasinan are reputed to be the best in the country. These firm, white-fleshed fish are bred in ponds throughout the province.
Best-known churches in the region are the Church of St. James Fortress, Bolinao, with its wooden statue and antique altar, and Old St. John’s Cathedral, Dagupan, the site of a Spanish surrender during the Philippine Revolution.
The most popular reorts are Leisure Coast Resort, Sierra Vista Beach, and Ruperto’s Inland Resort. Some diving sites are Fourteen-Mile Reef and Devil’s Island. Cape Bolinao Beach is ideal for tourist development, while Nalso Cave and its subterranean river attract spelunking enthusiasts.
